The latest medical updates
The family publishes new information as medical appointments, hospital stays and evaluations happen. Recent updates include Sofia’s gastrostomy replacement in Cluj, the medical response from Basel and the preoperative evaluation plan in Switzerland.
These updates are shared so supporters can follow the journey with context, not just see a fundraising total.
Chapter 1 — Who is Sofia?
Before the medical file comes a 10-year-old girl who responds to familiar voices, smiles when people spend time with her and depends on her family for almost every activity of daily life.
Chapter 2 — Cerebral palsy
Cerebral palsy affects Sofia’s movement, posture and development. She has severe motor impairment and spasticity and cannot move independently, but her family has learned to read her expressions and responses as part of how she communicates.
Chapter 3 — Why she has a gastrostomy
Feeding safely became increasingly difficult. A gastrostomy created a direct route for nutrition, fluids and medication and has helped reduce the problems the family faced with aspiration and vomiting.
Chapter 4 — The 90° spinal curve
Sofia’s neuromuscular scoliosis progressed to approximately 90 degrees. The Basel team documented a severe thoracolumbar deformity and a clear surgical indication.
Chapters 5 and 6 — Preparing and caring every day
Before surgery come anesthesia assessment, imaging, traction X-rays, interdisciplinary review, nutrition and ongoing therapy. At home, treatment continues every day through medication, gastrostomy care, physiotherapy, speech therapy, positioning, braces and close monitoring.
